Fluid Nexus Update

March 10th, 2008 · No Comments

Just a quick update on FluidNexus after a week of the workshop…

I’ve got two wonderful collaborators, Bruno and Luis, helping me out on the UI and database, respectively. I’ve been hacking away at the networking part of the code, with much help on the protocol from Julian, Pix, and Luis, and have run into all sorts of fun symbian and python issues, like the fact that select() doesn’t work on sockets for accept()’ing, which is a real pain and is going to cause a lot of pain later on this week.

But just tonight I got one phone to find all of the other phones running Fluid Nexus, look at the advertised hashes, send only those messages that weren’t advertised, and have the receiving phone advertise the received hash and display the new message in its list. This is good :-) Tomorrow I start to work on cleaning up the client code (i.e., rolling it into the rest of my networking code), making it so that the client and server work continuously, and adding a ton of error handling code—-this thing needs to be as fool-proof as possible. Also, we’ll work to get things tied closer to the UI code and figure out some of the hairy threading issues that I’ve presently been avoiding…

Oh! And I need to figure out how to present this work…and I’ll likely be needing help with illustration and video editing for the final presentation this Friday. So much needs to happen in such a short period of time!
